About Us

In 1981, people who suffered critical injuries or illnesses
in Erie did not have Advanced Life Support (ALS) available
to them. Recognizing this crisis, Mayor Lou Tullio
approached Hamot Medical Center, St Vincent Health Center
and Metro Health Center with a plea to address the need of
better pre-hospital care.
While it is not unusual for medical centers across the
United States to operate their own ambulance system, it is
virtually unheard of for multiple hospitals in the same area
to jointly establish a community ambulance service. The
three hospitals entered into a formal partnership and on
July 1, 1983, EmergyCare answered their first emergency call.
For almost 25 years, this unique collaboration has been
invaluable to the residents of Erie; saving thousands of
lives through exceptional out-of-hospital care and improving
the quality of life with wheelchair and medical taxi
service, medical education classes and a wide range of
community services.
Since 1983, EmergyCare has expanded its coverage,
operating divisions in Meadville, Titusville, Warren,
Kane, and has a partnership with Corry Memorial Hospital
jointly owning and operating Corry Ambulance Service,
Inc.
EmergyCare has over 24,000 members who’s continued
support enables us to provide the highest level of
out-of-hospital quality care being delivered by the most
compassionate and highly trained staff consisting of
wheelchair transporters, Emergency Medical Technicians
(EMT’s), Paramedics and pre-hospital registered nurses.
In addition to EmergyCare’s expanded coverage they also
have reciprocal agreements for their membership program
with Community Ambulance Service, located in the
Franklin-Oil City area and also with Clarion Ambulance
Service, located in Clarion, Pa. |
